Fargo is the largest city in North Dakota, where it makes up over 16% of the state population and is also the county seat of Cass County. The most recent Census has the population at 113,658. The city, along with its twin city of Moorhead, Minnesota, as well as adjacent West Fargo, North Dakota and Dilworth, Minnesota, form the core of the Fargo-Moorhead, which in 2014 contained a population of 228,291.
Fargo was founded in 1871 and is located on the Red River of the North floodplain. It is widely known in the state as a cultural, retail, health care, educational, and industrial center and has recently been selected as one of the “Top 100 Best Places to Live” strongly due in part to low taxes and a workforce with low unemployment rates. The area is home to three universities, including North Dakota State University, Concordia College and Minnesota State University Moorhead.
